Red Delicious or Red AND Delicious????

Although this image began with a leafy base, it quickly became something that was not at all flower-like.  It looked a little like a family crest or medallion, or perhaps a secret doorway into a land beyond Narnia.

I wanted to be sure the golden center, which is so light, was pushed into the background, so created some details to pull other parts of the image forward.  No matter how much I continued to add details with the Micron pen, this still smacked of apple - with a mystical or magical charm surrounding it.

It makes me think of an element much like the character development of Maleficent in the Disney movie with Angelina Jolie.  The viewer enters the movie thinking we know everything there is to know about this evil character, and Disney makes a wonderful storyline twist to make us rethink our assumptions.  I am not sure how well the twist worked for children, but it was a great development for adults.  This rendition of the apple can have much the same "development."

As we, the viewer, approach the apple, we think we know everything there is to know about the characteristics of an apple.  Something, in this case visually, must challenge our assumptions, to prompt a second or third look.

Where is the star, for example, which would also prompt the related question - ....where are the seeds?  Is this a fruit I should love because of the hearts or is it a fruit that should love me and make me healthy, wealthy and wise?  Is this the ".......apple a day keeps the doctor away...." fruit or the sinister Garden of Eden temptation that begat the clothing industry?

So, what fruit does this alcohol ink depict for your imagination?  Or, is it something other than a fruit?
